The Canadian Wool Clip

Canadian sheep farmers grow about 3 million pounds of wool a year that is purchased by the Canadian Cooperative Wool Growers. The only large national wool purchasing institution in Canada.  Just over 90% of this wool is then sold on the international marketplace.

China is the largest buyer of Canadian wool, followed by India, Czech republic and the USA. Canadian wool is then processed and manufactured into textiles, furniture and other items.

The Canadian Cooperative Wool Growers pays a rate per pound for wool from farmers. They grade and class the wool and are responsible for marketing the wool. To learn more about the Canadian Cooperative of Wool Growers check it out here.
